The Loch Raven Reservoir is part of a Cooperative Wildlife Management Area found north of Townson, Maryland, just outside of Baltimore. The Northampton Furnace Fire Road is a quick and easy one-mile trail that takes you to a stunningly beautiful lake where you can spend the day hiking, picnicking, or relaxing by the water.
Your destination for this hike is the Loch Reservoir itself. As you come closer, the trees open up, giving you an incredible view of the water surrounded by forest.
Parts of the trail are overgrown, adding to the sense of adventure. In the morning, we recommend wearing pants to avoid getting too wet on these sections.
Whether you are looking for a quick hike to stretch your legs and breathe in some fresh air, or a place to hike and spend the morning or afternoon, Northampton Furnace Fire Road is a great choice.
Many animals can also be seen along the trail and around the reservoir, making it a popular choice for bird watchers. People often see cardinals, blue jays, and even bald eagles in the area, so keep your eye out!
Take this as a sign to get outside and check out a new area this week. Loch Raven Reservoir has plenty of different hikes to choose from, but the Northampton Furnace Fire Road is one of our favorites, and we highly recommend it. Lace up those hiking shoes, pack a picnic, and head on over to the Reservoir, and be sure to let us know what your favorite part of the hike was.
