1. Deep Creek Lake
Maryland's largest lake and surrounding area is abundant with color during the autumn season. Head here to take in the copper-colored views around the water or go on a scenic hike. There's plenty to explore.
2. C & O Canal
Stretching for 184.5 miles, the C & O Canal has plenty of foliage to see. No matter which part of the towpath you explore, from DC to Cumberland, you're sure to be WOWed at how bright and bold this Maryland gem becomes during fall months.
3. Susquehanna State Park
Maryland's northeast region is home to the stunning Susquehanna State Park, located along the Susquehanna River. Take to the trails and enjoy the natural beauty around the river.
4. Brookside Gardens
People drive from all over to see this wondrous attraction, which is located in Wheaton. Autumn is when this spot becomes emblazoned with yellows, oranges, and reds. The reflections on the water are a must-see in person.
5. Liberty Reservoir
The beauty of this large reservoir draws you in during autumn months. We especially love this area for kayaking, so you can get up close and personal to all the little islands. Find it sprawled across Baltimore County and Carroll County.
6. Oakland
Known for its Autumn Glory Festival, this little western Maryland town is at its best during fall. Surrounded by mountains and various other outdoor attractions, you could spend an entire weekend relaxing among this charming area.
7. Calvert Cliffs State Park
This southern Maryland park is located in Lusby. It's mostly known for its clay cliffs and beach, and tends to get crowded during summer months. However, we prefer visiting during autumn, when the trails are quieter and the trees are breathtaking.
8. Thurmont
This mountain town is located in Frederick County. There are plenty of surrounding outdoor attractions to explore or head to the annual Catoctin Colorfest in October, featuring artisans from all over. So much of this town turns crimson and gold when cooler weather arrives and it's picture perfect.
