Maryland is full of railroad history. While some of our railroads still remain, others have been demolished and/or converted into scenic rail trails. This particular rail trail in the Old Line State is a hidden gem that’s full of beautiful views along the way. Bring the family, young or old, and have a blast exploring this little slice of history in Southern Maryland.
Ready for one of the most unique (and beautiful) trails in Maryland? Then head to Indian Head Rail Trail, which is located in Charles County.
This 13-mile path runs along a former railroad corridor. In fact, parts of the railroad tracks have been left behind as a reminder of the history here.
The entire path is paved, making it perfect for bicycling. Of course, walkers, joggers, and those with strollers are welcome as well.
Because of its smooth surface, this trail is easy for all. And of course, you don't have to explore the entire 13-miles either.
Along the way, you may encounter wildflowers...
...wildlife...
...and water views.
This area is seriously scenic! You'll likely want to make several stops along your journey to snap some photos.
Don't miss this path during autumn either. Just look at that foliage!
There's no other trail in Maryland quite like Indian Head Rail Trail and we're lucky to have it. You can learn more by visiting the website and Facebook page linked below.
