Perhaps the most famous of all is Assateague Island National Seashore, a mystical place characterized by pristine natural habitats, wind-shaped coastlines, and beautiful water views. For those looking to experience this natural wonderland, we’d recommend checking out the Assateague National Seashore Bike Path. This little-known route is a wonderful way to experience the landscape — and the magical wild ponies who call this place home.
When it comes to breathtaking natural scenery in a wild, rugged landscape, it doesn't get much better than Maryland's Assateague Island National Seashore.
Complete with sandy beaches, salt marshes, maritime forests, and wild ponies, this region of Maryland truly feels like experiencing the edge of the world.
The paved path measures 9.4 miles total, and is dedicated to bikers and walkers. It's completely separate from vehicle traffic and promises absolutely breathtaking views.
Another highlight? Catching glimpses of the aforementioned horses! While it may be tempting to get a close look at them, the park recommends keeping about 40 feet of distance for everyone's safety.
