Step inside this decaying children’s school in Maryland and take a look at the creepy remains of a once-bustling institution. This place once catered to hundreds of kids. Now, it’s turning to dust. Read on to learn more about the site, and check out the haunting images photographer StudioTempura captured at this abandoned school in the woods.
The former Forest Haven School is located in Laurel, Maryland.
It was a children's developmental center.
The center opened in 1925 and was once considered thoroughly modern in its treatments and philosophy.
However, a dark reputation descended on the institution as time progressed.
Forest Haven became notorious for its poor conditions.
There were even reports of abuse towards the children by the staff.
Charges were brought against the school after patients began to die of aspiration pneumonia, which can be caused by feeding a patient who is lying down.
The school's funding was cut in the 1960s.
In 1991, Forest Haven closed its doors for the last time.
A small playground still stands on the decaying grounds.
The old-fashioned toys are more than a little creepy.
Plenty of vintage items have been left behind.
Retro arcade machines and old toys are among the leavings.
Even some of the former students' artwork has been left behind.
This eerie place is full of memories.
