If there’s one thing I’ve learned in my exploration of restaurants in Maryland, it’s never to judge them by their cover – or more accurately, by the exterior. Some of the best hidden gem restaurants you could hope to find in the Old Line State are unassuming family-owned spots, and you never know what you’ll find if you cross their threshold and check out the plentiful menus they have to offer. Spice N Curry, a delicious Indian restaurant in Elkridge, Maryland is one such example. This small Indian restaurant is a bit out of the way, located in a strip mall, but it boasts some truly delicious food and a lunch special that gives you so many options, that you could probably feed your whole family!
Don’t let the humble strip mall exterior fool you. Like so many other great restaurants in Maryland, Spice N Curry might appear unassuming from first glance…
The menu at Spice N Curry offers dishes from all across India’s many diverse regions. The aloo tikki are mashed potato fritters that are spiced to perfection and fried until crisp, and they make a delightful appetizer.
Of course, feel free to skip straight to the thali - the traditional lunch box special! There are vegetarian and non-vegetarian varieties, and each one comes with a smattering of different entrees, sides, and a dessert. Best of all, you can ask for refills on whichever of these you want, so eat up and enjoy!
If you’re coming around dinner time, the thali won’t be available. However, you can make do with some of the fantastic dishes that are available. You can’t go wrong with the goat chettinadu, with the complexly spicy signature peppercorn sauce…
…Or with classics like the vindaloo, usually the spiciest curry to be found on Indian menus! Spice N Curry does this familiar dish masterfully. It’s sure to make its mark!
There are a few desserts that are available with the thali, but my favorite has to be the gulab jamun. These fried dough balls in a cardamom syrup are topped with bits of coconut, and they absolutely cannot be beat!
Follow Spice N Curry’s Facebook page to place orders and check up on the menu and specials. Will you be checking out the thali lunch box? Let us know in the comments!
