Have you ever crossed a swinging bridge? The following Maryland hike offers two of them! Check out this historic and scenic trek that’s short and sweet, but perhaps a bit unnerving for those who are afraid of heights. We promise — this little adventure is worth conquering your fears for. Read on for the beatiful details below, and happy exploring, Marylanders!
Today's adventure starts along Ilchester Road in Ellicott City, Maryland.
Just type 1 Ilchester Road into your GPS and park along the side of the street. The beginning of the bridge trail is just steps away.
This path is known as Patapsco Valley State Park's Grist Mill Trail, and it starts off with the first of two swinging bridges. Walk across this marvelous structure, which we promise is sturdy -- but may sway the tiniest bit. Enjoy the water view below!
After crossing the first swinging bridge, enjoy the easy path. Because of its paved surface, this spot is perfect for bikes or strollers. Along the way, you'll spot water views, tunnels, and more. Keep going for a little over a mile...
...and you'll arrive at the second swinging bridge at the park's Avalon area.
It also crosses over water and the views from the middle of the bridge are fantastic.
