If you love places that are full of character, then check out this little town that’s about a 35 minute drive away from the city. This spot makes for a delightful day trip full of shopping, eating, and exploring.
Travel to Sykesville, Maryland for an old town feel.
The Main Street area is full of modern boutiques that are housed in historic buildings. It almost looks like it's straight out of a Western flick.

There's always something going on in Sykesville, from farmers markets and First Fridays...
...to fun events, like the recent Craft Beer Festival.
This town is so much more, too. There are several things that set it apart, including whimsically painted houses...
...and remarkable pieces of history. Pictured below is the Historic Colored Schoolhouse, for example.
This spot is big on railroad nostalgia, too.
You can dine at Baldwin's Station, which is an old railroad station turned restaurant. Choose to sit on the back patio and watch trains pass by on the tracks.
