Long ago, Maryland had dozens of covered bridges throughout the state. Today, only a handful remain, a few of which we previously featured here . Not many Baltimoreans know that there’s one that’s just a short drive from the city. Check out this historic structure that’s located in a beautiful setting, and is also said to be haunted…
Jericho Covered Bridge is about a 40 minute drive from Baltimore. You could also opt to take a more scenic route, which will add some time but the views are worthwhile.
This historic structure was constructed in 1865, and has since been restored a few times since. Most recently it was painted a bright red color, which makes it pop against the natural scenery.
The covered bridge crosses Little Gunpowder Falls, adding to the beauty. Be sure to bring a camera to capture the rustic details of this spot that lies between Baltimore County and Harford County.
Not only is this structure fascinating to see in person, but it's also allegedly haunted.

Local legend has it that this was once a hanging place for runaway slaves. Another tale says that years ago, a young couple in love hung themselves from the rafters so that they could be together forever in the afterlife.

Apparently if you visit Jericho Covered Bridge at night, you may see ghostly legs dangling from up above. Some also claim that their vehicles have stopped working while passing through the bridge.
