Maryland has dozens of stunning state parks, some of which we’ve discussed in a previous post here . Elk Neck State Park however, is by far one of the most underrated parks in our state. It’s beautiful, has diverse landscapes, and plenty of recreational activities. If you’ve never visited Elk Neck State Park, you may want to add it to your must-visit list for the following reasons…
With over 2,188 acres, you could spend an entire day (or camp out for a weekend) exploring the different landscapes of the park.
There are several different trails ranging from easy to difficult.
One of the more challenging hikes is three miles in length and loops around the white clay cliffs.
Just about every angle of the park offers spectacular views since the Chesapeake Bay is to the west, and Elk River on the east.
Starting in the spring, camping is available with 250 campsites and 15 cabins. Wake up early to catch the glorious sunrise from your tent.
Marshes border parts of the Elk River and often attract waterbirds and other wildlife.
There is also a beach, which is a great spot for swimming, kayaking, or having a picnic. It's gorgeous in autumn...
And even MORE so in the winter.
The Turkey Point Lighthouse is icing on the cake. Located at the southern tip of the park, the lighthouse is a gorgeous sight against the Chesapeake Bay in the background.
With forests, beaches, marshlands, fishing, a nature center, playground, and so much more, Elk Neck State Park is a Maryland gem that truly has it all.
