This weekend getaway starts bright and early Saturday morning at Conowingo Dam. Although a dam may seem like a dull place to spend some time, Conowingo Dam is a special spot to a certain patriotic bird...
Bald eagles are known to "go fishing" as the water is let into the dam. Keep an eye out and you may spot one or several of these majestic creatures. Bring a camera!
Next, it's time for even more nature. Head to the nearby Susquehanna State Park to hike the scenic trails that are gorgeous year-round.
All that hiking will probably have you famished. Next, swing by Havre de Grace to dine at a local restaurant and shop around at the boutiques.
Don't forget to walk around the promenade...
And check out Concord Point Lighthouse. This structure is oh so charming.
While in the area, you can't miss Elk Neck State Park. This is one of the most beautiful parks in Maryland, offering water views, a lighthouse, white clay cliffs, camping and more.
No matter how much time you decide to spend at Elk Neck State Park, don't forget to see Turkey Point Lighthouse.
Wheeew. All that walking around for the day probably has you feeling exhausted. Get back in the car and drive to Chesapeake City and check into the Old Wharf Cottage.
This little cottage is in the heart of Chesapeake City and within walking distance to everything. After grabbing some grub for the night, rest your weary head in this quaint and cozy place.
Awake the next morning and explore Chesapeake City! While you're out, you can grab lunch at a nearby eatery in between perusing the stores.
If you take this trip during the "in season," be sure to grab some ice cream at the creamery before driving home. What a refreshing way to end an unforgettable weekend in Maryland.
Would you take this little road trip for the weekend? What other stops would you make along the way? Feel free to share your thoughts!
