I scream, you scream, we all scream for…fried clams? Yes. There are a lot of classic Maine dishes out there, but none feel quite as Mainey as fried seafood. You can find it all over the state, particularly at some of the smaller shacks along the coast. But, a lot of these are seasonal only offering their goodness to folks within a four-month time period. But this place will fill your belly year-round and it’s absolutely delicious!
Bob's Clam Hut in Kittery and Portland is one of the best places in Maine for fried seafood. And folks especially love their fried clams!
It all began in Kittery back in 1956 long before Route One was full of outlets. And today the Kittery location remains open year round offering to satiate the cravings of both locals and those from away. Simply walk up to the outdoor counter, place your order plunk down your money and soon you're chowing down.
They're always fresh, which means they receive local deliveries daily. Take one look at the shop and you'll realize they can't fit more than one day's worth anyway!
Portions here are large. Get the dinner sized for a serious craving, but know that anything you order will more than fill you up. You might want to bring a few friends to help.
In addition to fried clams and other seafood, they also have the quintessential Maine meal: the lobster roll! And it's as good as you'd expect from a place like Bob's.
While the menu features fried seafood, lobster rolls and soups like clam chowder and lobster stew, you can also enjoy more land-fare like a patty melt. Theirs features rye bread from Lil's in Kittery, melty havarti cheese and local ground beef. Add in sautéed onions and you're in business!
In the summer you should plan on enjoying the fresh air at both the Kittery and Portland locations. But that doesn't mean you won't love them in the winter, too.
