Add tourists to the mix during the summer and you’ve got a recipe for some serious indecision. If you’re feeling that way right now, we have a beach you might want to prioritize. It’s great year-round, so don’t limit the bookmarking of this article for summer fun. Consider it a spot you can visit when you want to walk the coast on a balmy winter day, too!
Drake’s Island Beach is open year-round, but lifeguards are only on-duty daily between the last week in June through Labor Day and on weekends from Memorial Day weekend to the last week of June and Labor Day through Indigenous Peoples Day. You can learn more about it by downloading the official informational brochure created by the town of Wells. Parking is available in the lot from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., but as with most Maine beaches in the summer, it’s best to arrive early. Residents with a sticker can park for free; all others will pay $4 per hour.
