So, you’ve fallen in love with a Mainer and it’s time to make it official! That means it’s time to work out the details – guest list, what you’ll wear and, of course, where the whole affair will take place. Whether you’re planning a wedding in your home town or have your sights set on an oceanfront resort fete, your guests will simply be happy to be there with you. But, here are a few places that will stay in their memories for a lifetime. And, more importantly, will help you kick off your married life the right way.
An incredibly unique option in Maine is the Maritime Museum. Set up your ceremony right on the banks of the river, then head inside to the timber-frame hall.
Ready to get married, but not ready to invite everybody you know? This spot is perfect. They pretty much specialize in elopements! They'll host up to 12 guests for such an occasion and you can choose from the lakeside lawn, the pine grove, the lovely boathouse right on the lake or inside their beautiful, rustic Inn.
There's a lot of love here at the Kendall Farm Cottages. That could be a result of the love that went into building the barn back in 1913, when the current owner's grandfather and friends constructed it all on their own. Today, the barn plays host to a variety of wedding-related events. Check it out for a lovely, homey Downeast style wedding.
The beautiful backdrop that the botanical gardens offer is unmatched. Guest will enjoy the scenery, but also have an opportunity to explore the gardens. In addition to the wedding itself, a shower, engagement party or casual reception can also take place here.
The luxury boutique hotel Hidden Pond is a delightful place to share your special day. The food available through on-premise restaurant Earth features slow food with a farm-to-table feel that will delight foodies. Everything is created with great care and the backdrop is elegant and special.
Point Lookout is a one-stop shop for every individual event you may want to include in your wedding weekend. From the rehearsal dinner to the farewell brunch, guests can enjoy a full weekend in one place. And the incredible view of Penobscot Bay aren't too shabby either.
If you're a longtime reader, you'll know that we absolutely love Grace! This converted church looks every bit the part, but inside it's a beautifully created restaurant and bar. With its huge ceilings and open spaces, it feels airy and clean. It's one of the most unique venues on this list. But, book early - during the summer they've got a wedding just about every weekend here!
If you love the lakes of Maine, head to Rangeley for the wedding of your dreams. Located just on the shores of the lake, The Loon Lodge offers a wonderful backdrop for up to 150 guests.
Much of this area is perfect for a casual wedding, but there's a lovely spot down by the Narrow Gauge tracks that allows for the perfect area for guests to gaze out at Casco Bay.
Another Only in Maine favorite, The Norumbega Inn is a beautiful castle overlooking the Penobscot Bay. Built in 1886, it was privately owned and lived in for almost 100 years before becoming a bed and breakfast that will play host to your guests.
Built in 1892, this church will provide the perfect historical backdrop to your special day. Far from the luxury of a "fancy" resort, this is the perfect space to host a local, custom and very "Maine" wedding.
If you're looking for a rustic wedding, this might be the perfect spot. The barn itself is 115 years old, which means it comes with a ton of wonderful history that the owners will be happy to share. But, guests will love the recent 2013 renovation that makes it a contemporary spot to say "I do." Guests can even stay at the lovely B&B here.
