There’s only one time of year when traipsing through the haunted forests in Maine is something we do on purpose. Maybe it’s the promise of candy corn and mini-candy bars at the end, or maybe it’s just that Mainers really love a good outdoor scare, but we keep coming across more tales of haunted trails and spooky activities. This one, located in Kittery, is one of the best. And by “best,” we definitely mean creepiest.

With all its forested quiet areas, Maine might be the best place to go on a haunted walk through the woods.

That is, if you like your hikes with a dose of howling wind and creepy shadows.

Night Terrors Haunted Woods Walk, located each year in Kittery, is one of the spookiest ways to get into the woods for a a scare.

Working in partnership with Take Flight Aerial Adventure Park, this spooky walk through the woods has been entertaining folks since 2001.

While it certainly matches any haunted house attraction you'll find, what sets this experience apart from the rest is the community-feel.

It started as a backyard attraction and has now expanded to be a half mile of spooky fun for everyone.

The attraction relies almost entirely on volunteers.

Each year there's a scary theme and this year is no different.

Through over a half mile of trail, visitors will feel as though they're actually test subjects in a place called Sci-Corp.

Every turn features an actor ready to scare you into running home...but you can't.

You'll need to finish the half mile walk before venturing home...if you even get there.

The remaining dates for walks are Oct. 18, 19, 20, 25, 26, 27, 28 and 30. The walk is open from 7 to 10 p.m. and tickets are $15. They can be reserved here.
