Over the years, a few things have become synonymous with Maine. Of course, there’s lobster, the rocky coast, and the beautiful lighthouses that dot it, but those who have been here a long time can probably agree that there’s a lot more that makes us, us. There’s the gorgeous nature found in all corners of the state as well as the many hiking trails that allow us to see it more closely and there are also the breweries popping up just about anywhere you look. Today, we’re focused on a place that celebrates both of these things!
Oxbow Beer Garden in Oxford is the third outpost of one of Maine's most well-known breweries. And while this spot offering everything you've come to expect from Oxbow, there's something extra-special about this place.
About an hour and 15 minutes in the car from Portland, the location offers a rural feel without being terribly far away. And while we love the drinks and the food, it's the access to the outdoors that helps this place stand out.
There's plenty of room to eat inside, but we love that this place is truly a beer garden. The outside offers lots of space to spread out and enjoy the surroundings with your food and drink.
The casual nature of the beer garden makes it great for ordering multiple pies to share with friends. Add the brews to the mix and you've got a perfect pairing.
This past winter they offered a unique take on outdoor dining to ensure the safety of their guests. Being outside in this region is beautiful, which is why we love the outdoor options available to those who visit.
Throughout the year Oxbow Beer Garden offers trails that wind through the surrounding land. Cross-country skis and snowshoes are offered for rent by Portland Gear Hub so visitors don't even need to worry about showing up equipped.
In the winter the trails are made up of an extensive Nordic skiing trail system. The area was originally created by the local Carter family who ran the trails as Carter’s XC Ski. Today, they've allowed Oxbow to manage and open the trails again.
This spot is the best of all Maine worlds. Great craft beer, beautiful trails and great food make this a must-visit for those looking to have a quintessential local experience without going too far off the beaten path.
Oxbow Beer Garden is open year-round from Wednesday through Friday 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from noon to 8 p.m. They’re closed on Monday and Tuesday. You can learn more about visiting by checking out their website or you can follow them on Facebook. The brewery can be reached on 207-539-5178.
