The Magnificent Maine Trail That Will Lead You On An Unforgettable Wildlife Adventure

Maine is full of great ways to adventure. Between combing the beach for treasures, hidden swimming holes and traditional hiking trails there’s something for every outdoor lover in Vacationland. While there are things to do all over the state, we’ve been setting out sights on some of the easier-to-access spots. Rather than multiple dirt-road turns and hidden trail heads, we’ve been loving the easy access that Maine provides. This marsh hike in Maine is a great example of a small and easy hike just off the road that offers plenty of views.

The Scarborough Marsh Nature Trail is a 2-mile out and back route that can be found just off of Pine Point Road in Scarborough.

The trailhead is on the north side of Pine Point Road, just east of US1. Don't worry, you can use 138 Pine Point Road on your GPS if you're not the map-using type.

The trail is part of the East Coast Greenway, which links Maine to Florida.

The parking lot can be packed on nice day, but you can park off of the road if you're feeling adventurous.

The trail is easy to spot and begins right from the parking lot.

The only exception being a small bridge over the Nonesuch River.

Because Pine Point Road leads to the beach, the area surrounding it is marshy and beautiful, so the views begin immediately.

Depending on the tide you'll either be surrounded by water or have a chance to see some of what's left behind once the tide goes out.

There are educational boards that teach about the various wildlife and ecosystems you'll find here.

And the expansive protected area makes it a bit easier to actually spot the wildlife you're learning about.

There are benches located along the trail to make it a little easier to relax and enjoy the sounds of nature.

The first part of the trail leads through marsh and low brush.

After about .75 miles, the trail goes into a forested area providing shade and some great bird watching.

It's not uncommon to see folks carrying binoculars and cameras.

We love the events that take place here, including the monthly full-moon walks.

And there's even a little lending library set up, which makes it a little easier to remember what a wonderful community exists in Maine.

Even the best known views in Maine come with trails that might surprise you. Reach this famous Maine viewpoint at Camden Hills State Park using this trail and you won’t regret it.
