Michelle's life is a colorful map of exploration and adventure. From the iconic streets of New York to the sunny shores of Florida, the jagged coast of Maine to the rugged terrain of Montana, she's been fortunate to call some of America's most beautiful states home. Beyond the U.S., Michelle's wanderlust has taken her on a motorcycle journey through India, led her to teach English in Hanoi, and saw her studying Spanish in Guatemala. Michelle graduated with a communications degree from the S. I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University and in addition to a career in advertising has worked with OnlyInYourState since 2016, where her love for travel and storytelling converges. Alongside writing and exploring, Michelle finds joy in photography, staying active, and time with her family.

Of all the places we love to get lost, Maine is certainly the best. From forest trails to coastal paths, there are so many ways to disappear into nature for some peace and quiet. We’re happy with a simple trail through the woods, but we’re especially happy with the ones that lead to secret little enclaves of beauty. Like this one!
Make your way to Trevett, near Boothbay Harbor, to explore the impressive Porter Preserve. Our favorite trail is the 0.9-mile White Loop Trail and it leads to some of the most beautiful scenery in the state.
On nice days you're likely to find the parking lot packed, so try to arrive early. As the weather becomes colder, you'll have a bit more wiggle room. Begin the route by checking out the map at the trailhead kiosk. Then, allow yourself to get lost in the trees.
Once you've completed the short trail loop, you'll arrive back at the trailhead. From here, you can choose to take another hike or make plans to come back for the rest.
Porter Preserve is beautiful year-round. You can learn more about it by visiting the Boothbay Region Land Trust website. For more information about the White Loop Trail check out the reviews and map on alltrails.com.
