My name is Chris Dodge and I live right here in the great state of Tennessee. My family and I are full adventurers filled with passion to see the amazing things our state has to offer. We are avid hikers and have explored many different places in Tennessee and beyond but we are always thankful to be living in such a glorious state.
There is a historical house in Brunswick, Maine, unlike any other historical house. The house itself does not hold any significance other than the man that lived there. A man who was a legend in our history books, brave and powerful. This man was named Joshua Chamberlain and because of his heroism, we now stand free to this day.
Joshua Chamberlain was a seemingly simple man born in 1828.
He was a quick study of new things and learned to master many languages. He became a leader in many ways. Through his church, the school, and his family Chamberlain learned to be the man he needed to be for his country.
The time came when our country was thrown into chaos.
The Civil War had ripped our nation apart and Joshua Chamberlain heard the calling. With a deep desire to stop the bloodshed, he enlisted and set off for war. He rose quickly in the ranks as a man of character and leadership.
This is where the grit and bravery of Chamberlain were really showcased. While defending the very strategic position called Little Round Top, his men suffered greatly from the barrage of Confederate attacks. Tired and severely hurting Chamberlain did the unthinkable. He ordered his men to charge the unprepared army below. Low on ammo and after a long day of battle these men made a decisive victory by catching the Confederates off guard. The tide of the war shifted that day with the victorious charge and many believe that shift was what helped win the war, ultimately ending the bloodshed.
