In a place like Maine, winter activities are a bit of a must. With all the snow we get each year, they have to be! Over the years we’ve found some of the best places to ski, snowshoe, and tube. But there’s one spot we’ve been waiting for. This beloved ski slope has been closed for quite some time, and the reopening has been one of the most anticipated winter events of the year. And, at long last, it’s here.
Those who have been skiing in Maine for ages will remember the beloved Saddleback Mountain in Rangley. While not the largest in the state, it was certainly one of the most lovely, and the area holds special memories for many families. They've been closed since 2015 when funding for major improvements could not be secured. While a condo community near the base of the mountain remained open, skiers haven't been here in far too long.
Along with the purchase came the installation of a very-cool, new high-speed detachable quad chair lift, which will take you to the top in lickety-split time. There's also a new snowmaking machine, and the lodge has been revamped.
And while most of the fun needs to stay outside for now, there's plenty to do. In addition to the downhill skiing on 66 trails, there are also two terrain parks and plenty of Nordic ski trails.
The lifts bring skiers more than 4,000 feet up to enjoy a vertical drop of 2,000 feet. And let's not forget the 225 inches of annual snowfall. If skiing isn't your thing, there are plenty of other activities including fat biking and snowboarding.
Whatever you remember about Saddleback from a few years ago will be back with some major improvements. Even if winter sports are new to you, you'll find something to love here!
Saddleback Mountain has officially been open since December 15th, 2020. You can learn more about the upgrades and what to expect by checking out their website or visiting them on Facebook. There are a variety of different prices for day tickets and season passes, so be sure to check that out before visiting. If you have questions, you can reach them on 866-918-2225.
