Here in Maine, we know a thing or two about breathtaking fall foliage. When the colors come alive each autumn, we are ready and willing to capture some of Mother Nature’s most stunning creations. However, we are finding that many of our favorite destinations for viewing fall foliage in Maine are becoming quite crowded. Fortunately, there are still a few scenic spots that are lesser-known and just as beautiful. The Bald Bluff Mountain Trail is one of them.
Tucked away in the Amherst Mountains Community Forest near Amherst is the Bald Bluff Mountain Trail. This is a loop trail that may just become your new favorite place to spend a fall day.
You will find the trailhead just off Ducktail Pond Road. This is a dirt road and a high-clearance vehicle is recommended.
The Bald Bluff Mountain Trail is only 2.2 miles but it does have some challenging areas. Be prepared for a bit of a climb and pay attention to the trail. There are many rocks and roots that can easily trip you if you’re not paying attention.
Fortunately, the trail is well-maintained and easy to follow. However, there is very little service in the area so I recommend using AllTrails+ to download a trail map before you start your adventure!

…a breathtaking viewpoint! While this overlook is beautiful any time of the year, there is something wonderful when all you can see are reds, oranges, and golds.
Because of the trek to reach this sight, you may just enjoy this beautiful view all by yourself. It's the perfect spot to enjoy a little solitude and relaxation. It's a perfect way to spend a fall day.
