Maine is full of incredible nature. And you know what? It doesn’t even matter what you love. Love the beach? We have it! Love the forest? We have that too! Love the weird construction on the side of the road where flowers somehow still manage to bloom? Yep, we have a lot of that. In fact what we love the most are the natural spots that are completely unique and special. That’s exactly what we have for you today!
Reversing Falls Park in Pembroke is home to one of the most interesting natural wonders in Maine.
If you know enough about Vacationland, you know that we have one of the most dramatic tidal changes in the country. One visit to Reversing Falls Park and you’ll see exactly what that means.
While you might be able to see those up and down the coast, it’s truly fascinating to see it in action when the water rushes in and out of Dennys and Whiting Bay.
Reversing Falls, which is more officially referred to as "Cobscook Falls,” is created when the incoming tide hits the underwater ledge creating an unexpected waterfall.
Heading the other way, the water goes over the ledge which makes the water move in a reverse direction. This makes for a waterfall that seems to be moving against the current.

And when the tide isn’t moving, things are as calm as can be. If you catch it at the right time, you'll witness this strange phenomenon. But, see it any other time and things look calm as can be.
Pembroke might be slightly out of the way, but it’s worth the visit. You can reach Reversing Falls Park via U.S. 1.
