Kayaking in Casco Bay is the perfect way to spend any day, but the bay becomes a downright magical place as the sun sets. Take a sunset kayak tour with Portland Paddle, and watch the sky slowly turn from blue to fiery shades of red and orange during this tour.
Your sunset kayak adventure starts here, at Portland Paddle. These folks are passionate about paddling, and they're ready to help you explore Casco Bay.
Address: Cutter Street and Eastern Promenade, Portland, ME, 04101
The tour starts at East End beach. Portland Paddle supplies the kayak, paddle, and a dry bag for you to use, but you can bring your own gear if you'd like. Make sure to bring an extra layer for warmth - it starts to get a little chilly as the sun goes down.
The start time varies slightly, but you'll generally push off about two hours before sunset. This is by far the best time to paddle in the bay. The water calms and becomes glassy, and your kayak will cut silently right through the water.
You'll make your way along the shoreline and across the bay, all the while watching for wildlife. You might see seals swimming along beside you, or osprey circling overhead.
The sunset kayak tour is $40 for adults; $35 for kids ages 10-16. If you have your own kayak, you'll get a $15 discount.
Visit Portland Paddle’s website to book your tour and to see the other tours the company offers. You’ll also want to follow its Facebook page to see more adventures.
