Getting outside in Maine is a great way to appreciate the state just a little bit more. If you’re looking to raise your heart rate, there are also lots of trails to explore. There are so many different landscapes here, but one of our favorite features are the waterfalls. This camping experience is a bit more luxury than sleeping on the ground and it’s quite close to the lovely Poplar Stream Falls.

Poplar Stream Falls in Franklin County is located on the Penobscot Indian Nation land that the public is permitted to access. Once a bit hard to find, it's now fairly simple with the construction of the Maine Huts and Trails network.

Even more fun is that visitors can stay just a down the trail from the falls by reserving the Poplar Hut.

One of four beautifully built cabins, Poplar Hut can be reserved in advance for those who want to explore the trails nearby. And, of course, the .3-mile hike to the waterfall should be the first order of business.

The route is easily accessed from the cabin with clear signs, all created by Maine Huts and Trails.

Along with the other three, Poplar Hut features a common room, a reading area, and a screened-in porch. Visitors will also find hot showers, toilets, gear drying rooms and comfortable heated rooms.
