Pizza is one of those foods that’s always up for debate and discussion. What one person thinks is the best, another might think barely counts as worth trying. For that reason, we’ll try not to claim that any one pizza spot in Maine is the best. But we will tell you about one with some serious history and a devoted following! With more than 90 years in the business, Pat’s Pizza is a local institution in Maine that you’ll want to try.
Pat's Pizza is one of the most beloved Maine institutions you can find. While people are certainly divided on who makes the best pie in the state, there's no denying that Pat's has the history that make us love them no matter who shows up on the scene.
The first Pat's Pizza location opened as Farnsworth's Cafe in Orono in 1931. The mastermind behind the operation, C.D. "Pat" Farnsworth, updated the menu with pizza in 1953 and the popularity made it clear that this was now an official pizza joint!
The name was changed to Pat's Pizza the same year; and in the nearly 70 years that followed, the restaurant has become a favorite of University of Maine students in Orono.
Pat's Pizza also expanded, opening more than 14 locations across the state. Today, in Orono, you'll still find some old-school flair in the form of cozy booths, classic counter stools, and even tabletop jukeboxes.
Pat’s Pizza has 16 different locations in Maine, each with its own website. To find out where they are, what their hours are and how to visit check out their website. You can also learn more by visiting them on Facebook. The original Orono location is open daily for dine-in from 4 to 9 p.m. and for takeout beginning at 11 a.m. You can reach them at (207) 866-2111.
