Visit The Oldest Beach In Maine For A Day Of Timeless Fun
The beaches of Maine are a bit different than they are anywhere else, and that’s exactly how we like them. But as comforting and pleasant as our rocky shorelines can be, sometimes nothing but a good old-fashioned sandy beach day will do, even if that means it’s a bit crowded. If you don’t mind sharing your space with others, check out Old Orchard Beach this summer.

While about 9,000 Mainers live here year-round, summer populations can sometimes reach 75,000.

The people watching here is fantastic. And considering the beach stretches on for seven miles, you'll always find your place in the sand.

There has been a pier here for well over a century, although this is not the original structure. A series of storms ate away at the old pier for years, and it was finally completely rebuilt in 1980 with wood after a 1978 blizzard destroyed it.

You'll also catch concerts, street fairs, and other events on the pier, especially in the summer.

It's open from Memorial Day to Labor Day, and they even set off fireworks every Thursday night. Riding the Gondola Ferris Wheel at sunset is incredible.

There are two courses here, and you can golf both of them for $12.95.

Everything at The Shack is homemade and fresh, and the ocean views don't hurt, either.
