One of the best things about Maine is all the gorgeous islands off of our coast. Taking boat trips or paddling around them often makes us wonder what it would be like to have one of them all to ourselves for a while. Wouldn’t you like to rent one? If so, you’re in luck! McGee Island in Maine is available to rent and it’s a dream!
McGee Island is a lush, 90-acre island about three miles off the coast from Port Clyde in the Township of St. George. Aside from the island’s caretaker, you can have it all to yourself!
This idyllic island has three houses to stay in, so bring your family and friends along! Wi-fi and cellular service are available, but there are no TVs - but you won’t miss them one bit! Each building is filled with artifacts and antiques, and you’ll love exploring all the historical details.
The Main House was built in 1915 and you can still see the original walls in the interior. It has nine bedrooms, and four bathrooms, and sleeps a whopping 17 people! There are old-fashioned clawfoot tubs that you’ll love to soak in.
The Cook House was built in the late 1700s and has a historic feel while boasting completely modern appliances with everything you’ll need to cook amazing meals. The island has wild raspberries and blackberries to pick, there are mussels to gather at the shore, fish to catch, and a lobster boat visits from time to time so you can prepare a real family feast!
Everyone can gather together here, as the dining room can seat up to 22 people! It will be wonderful to spend time sharing food and conversation, making it a lovely bonding experience.
The Little Boat House is right on the water and is perfect for teens and younger folks who might like to have their own space to stay in. They can stay up to talk and laugh together or just fall right to sleep after all of the fun they had during the day.
Speaking of activities, there is certainly no shortage of things to do on McGee Island! You can play volleyball, badminton, ping pong, croquet, and cornhole, and there are kayaks available to paddle around the island. The Main House has a huge closet full of board games, cards, and puzzles. Get a game together of Settlers of Catan, Scrabble, Trivial Pursuit, Jenga, and more!
One of the best things about the island is its sheer natural beauty. There are hiking trails to wander, wildlife to see, and the sunrises and sunsets are spectacular. Ospreys nest on the island, and you never know what treasures might wash up on shore.
You’re sure to have the time of your life on this magnificent island. Talk to the family, book a stay, and have a vacation that you’ll remember fondly for decades to come!
