When you want to head outside, there is no better place than Maine. From the coast to the cities, you can find unforgettable places to explore. One lesser-known destination is Jordan Homestead Preserve in Ellsworth. This 31-acre property is a place where you can enjoy it all — forests, a river, and seclusion. Plus, you will find a loop trail here that is lightly trafficked and absolutely beautiful. You don’t want to miss it.
Jordan Homestead Preserve was owned by the Jordan family for more than 200 years. In 2017, it was acquired by the Frenchman Bay Conservancy, and today, it is where visitors can come for a short and easy walk through nature.
You’ll want to bring your entire family along for this hike. You’ll begin in a wooded area and pass many historic sites, including an old cemetery and a heritage garden.
While any time of the year is wonderful to visit Jordan Homestead Preserve, we especially love the summer and fall months. Keep in mind that if exploring during the winter or spring, the trail can be snowy and muddy — you’ll want to come prepared with the proper gear for the current weather and trail conditions.
