As local travel experts, we know what travelers are looking for when it comes to finding the perfect accommodations for their next trip. To compile our lists, we scour the internet to find properties with excellent ratings and reviews, desirable amenities, nearby attractions, and that something special that makes a destination worthy of traveling for.
Have you started planning your summer getaway yet? Here’s a gorgeous lodge that’s located on an island, and it’s perfect if you’d like to get away from it all for awhile.
Originally built in 1816, the building was enlarged in 1910 to its current size. Situated on a bluff, the inn offers the most incredible views of the island.
When you stay on Monhegan Island, you're certain to leave all your worries and cares behind.
Cell phone service here is spotty at best, and while Internet service is offered, it's limited, as well. The Inn has a telephone for your use, but when you stay here, be prepared to relax and enjoy a device-free vacation.

The inn has been recently renovated, but don't worry - it's still got all its original charm.
You'll find several cozy nooks around the inn where you can read a book or chat with loved ones. Without the Internet and your cell phone, you'll be able to enjoy some true time off.
Snuggle underneath the cozy down duvet and enjoy views of the ocean or the meadows on the island. Some of the rooms offer private baths; others share a bath.
Guests enjoy a complimentary breakfast buffet in the dining room every morning, and lunch is served here from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM, mid-June through September.
The Barnacle is located right by the wharf for more dining options.
It opens at 8 AM every morning and offers espresso, sandwiches, salads and home-baked goods. They'll also pack a picnic for you when you're ready to explore the island.
The season on Monhegan Island is short, so book your getaway soon.
