My name is Chris Dodge and I live right here in the great state of Tennessee. My family and I are full adventurers filled with passion to see the amazing things our state has to offer. We are avid hikers and have explored many different places in Tennessee and beyond but we are always thankful to be living in such a glorious state.
In New England, we are blessed to have some fantastic beauty especially when it comes to hikes in Maine. Some world-renowned peaks are found within our borders. The Mahoosuc Public Reserve Land is a perfect example of the incredible mountains available in our corner of the country. The Mahoosuc Range is a series of mountains that extend to Grafton Notch State Park. So let’s look at some of the best hikes in that area.
Old Speck is probably one of the most famous mountains in the Mahoosuc Range.
The stunning overlooks that can be found are simply breathtaking. As great as the views are they don't come without some effort. You will traverse a difficult 7.4-mile hike with 2,870 feet of elevation gain. When you get to the top there is also an old fire tower you climb for even better views.
If you want great views but you want something with a little less effort then Table Rock Trail is perfect for you.
Rated as moderate this 2.1-mile trail with 875 feet of elevation gain will get you to some fantastic views. The trail is steep and so we suggest you do the loop counterclockwise.

If you are a waterfall chaser then you can not resist Screw Arguer Falls.
This 23-foot waterfall is accessible practically right off the road. So when you want a waterfall with minimal effort you won't find a better one in the area than this.
It is a 7.3-mile hike with 2,575 feet of elevation gain and is rated as moderate. Just like many hikes in the Mahoosuc Public Reserve Land, you will have incredible views from the summit. Hikers will be rewarded with amazing mountain range sights of the Mahoosuc Range.
If you want an intense backpacking experience then you should hike West Peak From North Newry.
This is a grueling 34.7-mile hike with 10,314 feet of elevation gain. The sights from the various peaks you will traverse are second to none and well worth the hard work.
For something a little different then try hiking to Moose Cave.
Long ago there was a rock fracture in the granite gorge and a piece of the rock fell in, now creating a little cave. The place got its name when a moose was discovered in the cave. This quirky little trail is a fun detour well exploring the Grafton Notch area.
So when you are looking for hikes in Maine then make sure to add the Mahoosuc Public Reserve Land to the list. From short hikes to large two-day backpacking trips, this truly is a nature-lover paradise.
Make sure to spend some time on the trails at Pondicherry Park as well. With a nature-themed obstacle course and plenty of hidden fun to find it’s a great place to explore.
