Each and every state has their own ghost stories and and terrifying tales. But sometimes it seems like Maine has just a bit more than other places. It could be the result of such a long history. Or it could be that Maine is home to the master of horror, Stephen King. Either way, we’re always on the lookout for places that have their own ghost stories. The second oldest "garden cemetery" in the country, this spot was created in 1834 and got its "garden" qualifier by having a pond, lots of trees and elevated plots.

Mount Hope Cemetery is private property, but visitors are allowed. Between May and mid-September gates are open from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Outside of those months check the gates for specific closing hours. You can find more information about visiting hours by checking out their website. Be sure to read the rules and regulations before visiting to be as respectful as possible.

Maine even has haunted hotels! In fact, the Chapman Inn in Maine is so haunted it has a special certification to prove it.
