Each and every state has their own ghost stories and and terrifying tales. But sometimes it seems like Maine has just a bit more than other places. It could be the result of such a long history. Or it could be that Maine is home to the master of horror, Stephen King. Either way, we’re always on the lookout for places that have their own ghost stories. This one, which has been featured in Stephen King films, has quite a few!
Even those who don't frequent cemeteries might recognize Mount Hope Cemetery in Bangor.
The second oldest "garden cemetery" in the country, this spot was created in 1834 and got its "garden" qualifier by having a pond, lots of trees and elevated plots.
One of the most well-known cemeteries in Maine, it's the final resting place of Vice President under Lincoln, Hannibal Hamlin. You'll also find US Ambassadors, Civil War generals and prominent names in Maine politics.
In fact, some of his character's names were taken from headstones throughout the cemetery. And you might recognize this structure from the movie "Pet Sematary."
Some believe this to be the most haunted cemetery in the state. And while we can't give a definitive yes or no to that claim, we'd be surprised if there were no spirits enjoying the views and fresh air of Maine right here.
