If there ever was a food that we go to when we need something good, easy and fun it’s grilled cheese. Many of us have memories of eating one on a cold, snowy day. Sometimes with a side of tomato soup. Whatever we had alongside it, the gooey goodness was always the star and that’s why we’re so excited that a shop dedicated to our favorite childhood food has opened in Portland’s Old Port!
Portland's newest dining addition is Cheese Louise in the Old Port area and we couldn't be more excited.
What started as a food truck in New Hampshire dreamed up by three college students has expanded into three locations across New Hampshire and now Maine. This one is beautiful, with lots of space and fun vibes.
The menu here is simple. They've got six regular menu grilled cheeses, ranging from the traditional "Vermonter," which is a mix of Cabot Cheddar and Muenster to the more wild "Baconator" which adds bacon to that mix.
And if that's not exciting enough, look out for their specials. Past concoctions have included the "Canadian," a combination of sharp Cheddar, smoky bacon, green apples and maple syrup.
And if you can't decide which comfort food you need, here's hoping they bring back the Pizza Grilled Cheese with mozzarella, pepperoni, and marinara sauce.
If you're inclined, check out their Big Kid Drinks, which include things like a fresh squeezed Maple lemonade, with either Tito’s Vodka, Espolon Tequila or Tanqueray Gin.
This is a great place to visit with friends and we recommend trying it the next time you're in town.
Cheese Louise is open Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m.to midnight. You can learn more about them and check out the menu by visiting their website or following them on Facebook. They can be reached at 207-536-0257. And if you find yourself in New Hampshire, they’ve got two locations there. You can find those locations on the same website.
