A Great White Shark Was Spotted Off The Coast Of Maine And Here's What You Need To Know

There’s nothing we love more than heading to the beach on a warm summer day. When the sun is shining and the heat index is high, a trip to the coast is one of the easiest ways to cool down. Plus, who can resist it when we’ve got more than 3,000 miles of it. For the most part, we don’t have to worry about much more than some super cold water when we visit. Or maybe a rip current here and there. Until now. A great white shark was recently spotted off the coast and it has us wondering when we’ll be ready to go back in the water.

Kennebunkport is one of the most popular tourist destinations every summer. With fun shops and beautiful homes, it's a natural choice when spending a week or two in Maine.

And Goose Rocks Beach is one of the most well-known beaches in the area.

That's why the recent spotting of a Great White Shark off the coast of Goose Rocks Beach is so shocking.

We expect to visit the coast, wade in the water and spend some time relaxing. But, knowing that this shark was recently seen gives us a little bit of pause when it comes to actually getting in the water.

The shark was spotted by a reputable source, about one mile off the coast around 11 a.m. on August 2nd.

And just the week before a shark, believed to perhaps be the same one, was seen off the coast of Cape Neddick near Nubble Light House.

These sightings tend to be rare, but with the changing temperatures of New England waters it seems shark sightings have increased.

Authorities aren't sure if this shark will be a frequent visitor, but those who swim in these waters have been advised to be careful. Avoiding the water is not necessary, but always listen to lifeguards and read posted advisories at every beach you visit.
