Here are some general stores in Maine that are sure to make you feel like you belong.
Hope General Store was founded in 1832 and is still as open for business as ever! It's perfect for takeaway sandwiches, just about any kind of beer you might want and pizza that gets rave reviews. They've also got you covered when it comes to fishing licenses, bait, internet access, and sandwiches. Stop by en route to Hobbs Pond, Camden or Rockland.
Well-known in Maine and beyond, Owls Head is so much more than your typical general store. Pop in for one of their incredible burgers or lobster rolls and pick a seat outside when the weather's good. They also serve up daily specials, including an incredible Pumpkin Pecan Streusel French Toast.

This one won't be a surprise to most Mainers, but we just couldn't leave it off the list. Hussey's opened in 1923 and has become a Maine institution. Their motto is "if we ain't got it, you don't need it" and it rings true even today. The store is 30,000 square feet and sells groceries, sporting goods, clothing, formal gowns, hardware, and appliances.
