When life is uncertain, it’s always comforting to look to the support of those who care. And, it’s even nicer when we can be those people. When the going gets tough, Mainers get going and that’s why today we’re highlighting a few businesses that have chosen to join a national program called Feeding the Frontline. Because Portland is home to Maine Medical Center, the state’s largest hospital as well as so many other care facilities most of these are based in Portland. But, you can contribute from anywhere through the links we’ve provided. If you can, visit them to lend some support. And if we’ve missed restaurants in your area who are a part of this program let us know!
This spot was the first Portland establishment to take part in the nationwide program and many have looked to them for the best way to do it. For now, visit their website and order their 5 cheeseburger package which will go to hospitals and medical professionals in need of a meal. You can also purchase gift cards that the restaurant will use towards medical meals. You can even leave a note asking that your donation be used in a certain way. Check out the link here.
This fairly new addition to the Portland food scene is joining the initiative by offering lobster roll kits. You can call them on 207- 274-6097 to contribute.
This Italian spot is bringing home-cooked lasagne to medical workers across the area. For $100 you can provide a block of five servings. The donation will also go towards operational costs and to a fund that helps support the 90% of their staff that was laid off. Check their website here.
For every $10 donated, LB Kitchen will provide lunch for 1 team member at the
Maine Medical Center Emergency Room and COVID Response Unit.
Once they reach $500 donated, or 50 meals, they'll prepare and provide lunch to the entire ER staff at the hospital. You can donate at the link here and while the increments are $10, you're encouraged to donate as much as you'd like!
While their locations are dark you can continue to lend your support! In conjunction with Bam Bam Bakery in the Old Port, the Coffee By Design Cares initiative will deliver coffee for ten as many times as possible during the COVID-19 pandemic. You can visit their website to contribute. The same link can be used to place your own curbside orders to help support them while they're closed.
The Press Hotel's restaurant has joined in the effort by offering a daily dinner pickup. From Tuesday through Saturday they'll be cooking a special dinner that can be ordered and picked up in the hotel's valet area. Every take out meal also provides a grab n' go meal to a medical worker prepared by UNION. Call them on 207-808-8700 to place an order and follow them on link Facebook to see the menu.
7. Batson River Brewing & Distilling, Kennebunkport
Batson River is offering pizzas for delivery and you can order as many as you'd like for local healthcare workers. Click the link here to see their website and navigate to the ordering page!
This market with locations throughout the area is offering a boxed meal for employees at Maine Medical Center. When you order online you have the choice of donating an additional $20 which will go towards the initiative. Just scroll to the bottom of the page. You can also head to their website to purchase just this. But, if you need groceries ordering from them is simple and easy. They'll bring your order right out to the car, many times on the very same day you order. Check their website here.
