My name is Chris Dodge and I live right here in the great state of Tennessee. My family and I are full adventurers filled with passion to see the amazing things our state has to offer. We are avid hikers and have explored many different places in Tennessee and beyond but we are always thankful to be living in such a glorious state.
Hallowell has always had a reputation for the arts, but there’s nothing quite as unique as Scrummy Afters Candy Shoppe in Maine. It was almost like a sweet dream come true, and it seemed like it was over far too quickly. Then, out of a disappointing closed door, a brightly colored truck showed up and gave us all a reason to hope again. If you haven’t visited, then you owe it to yourself to see the most unique sweet shop in the entire state.
For those who have been around for a while, you might have seen bubbles floating around downtown Hallowell. Those iridescent floating orbs of happiness led to something far greater. Scrummy Afters was a candy store sitting in the heart of Water Street.
Stepping inside, you were greeted by the most opulent and creative decorations found in the whole state. The decor would change seasonally and would reflect whatever holiday was drawing close. One thing that was always true when you stepped into this candy store was that it felt like walking into a fairy tale that had a steampunk makeover. Then, one day they closed, and many people were left disheartened (and without chocolate therapy to help improve their mood).
However, a brightly colored truck then pulled into town as if a phoenix rising from the ashes.
What was once a closed door led to an open invitation to partake in sweet treats again. This time, Scrummy Afters was on wheels and ready to bring wild stylings and fantastic offerings on the go.

The bright blue and pink color scheme draws your eyes immediately to the truck, no matter where they end up.
You will usually find this mobile joy bringer in Hallowell still, but you will also see them at local festivals, events, and celebrations. Crowds have flocked to this sweet shop to partake in unique candy creations and funny gifts found throughout the shelves.
It truly feels like you have stepped through a portal into a fairytale land filled with circus themes like strong men, bearded ladies, and big top fun. As good as the sweets are, it is almost as if the eye candy is the sweetest of all.
The owner certainly has an eye for what looks great as well as what tastes good.
She was an art student after all, and she has poured her creativity into this cozy space in all of the best ways. Hand-painted figures and designs adorn the walls, shelves, and just about everywhere you look. Where else can you find a cotton candy tree?
Depending on the season, be sure to look out for creatively designed candy bouquets and baskets.
Pastel colors are the framework for spring, but black and purple can be found around Halloween for a spooky treat. One thing is for sure, you will always see something completely unique when you stop by Scrummy Afters.
Scrummy Afters in Maine may not be in a brick-and-mortar store anymore, but this mobile truck brings every bit of creativity wherever they go. With amazing artwork and design, you will certainly get a treat before you ever buy a piece of candy.
As this mobile sweet shop operates seasonally, please follow along with the Scrummy After Facebook page to see where they end up next and then drop everything to pay them a visit.
If you just absolutely love fairy tales then you should check out the forest in Hallowell known to the locals as Hobbit Land, it is simply magical.
