There are quite a few celebrities from Maine, but few hold the same attraction and interest as our own Stephen King. From scary books to even more terrifying movies, he’s held the world’s attention through his ideas and the way he can tell a tale. Even the most fleeting horror fan visiting Maine will add a visit to see the outside of his home in Bangor to their itinerary. But we’ll all be able to do more than that soon!
Located on a tree-lined street in Bangor, Stephen King's home looks much like the others surrounding it.
But get closer and it's clear that this is not your average Bangor home. The wrought-iron gates and the creepy, ghouly details make it clear that this is something special.
A Maine native, Stephen King moved to Bangor after growing up in southern Maine and living in western Maine with his family for many years. He and his family began living in this home in 1979.
That's why you could almost hear a collective cheer from horror fans when it was recently announced that his home will become an archive. Writers and scholars will have by-appointment access to review the materials.
Many of the details are not yet known as the Bangor city council has only just approved the request to rezone the homes. But stay tuned for details as this is sure to be an exciting time for King fans and horror lovers!
Stephen King’s house is located on West Broadway in Bangor.
