They say everything is bigger in Texas, but we’re going to have to disagree. That’s because no matter the actual size of the food, the meals in Maine are big on taste. Whether it’s lobster, clams, ice cream or donuts we’d rather chow down in Vacationland than just about any other place. But if you’re the literal type, we have that covered too. These cake slices are absolutely gigantic and it’s all we can do to stay away from them every time we’re in town!
Silly's has been a Portland institution for over 30 years and just one visit inside makes it obvious that this town needs Silly's for at least another 130 years!
The restaurant is known as the place to go if you've got a serious appetite. The portions here are gigantic and the throwback feel makes it feel comforting and fun.
The tables are reminiscent of throwback diner tables and each table has a lunch box filled with condiments. It's clear that Silly's is special even before you get your food.
That's because the homemade cakes are bigger than any others you've ever laid eyes on. In fact, one slice is so big that it's common to see folks order them to take home without even bothering to try eating it with their meal.
It's always changing and always includes delicious options like the ones pictured here, which are chocolate chocolate, blueberry lemon, almond coconut and vegan chocolate pistachio and vegan carrot maple.
The Silly's cakes are so popular that they've become a mainstay at their vegan-focused outpost just down the road. "Simply Vegan" now also offers their delicious cakes in vegan-friendly flavors. Try this chocolate cake with pistachio frosting and rainbow sprinkles if they have it when you visit!
Silly’s is open Wednesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. They’re closed on Monday and Tuesday.
