Maine is full of beautiful mountains, lakes, and hiking trails that run deep into the woods and showcase majestic views. However, when traveling to Maine, it’s hard to decide at what location to set up your tent. There are so many options to choose from. A favorite spot among Mainers and tourists alike is Lily Bay State Park in Beavercove, which you can access via the Dunn Point Trail in Maine.
Dunn Point Trail in Lily Bay State Park is located on the east shore of Moosehead Lake. This cold water lake is 246 feet deep at its deepest point.
The park is open from 9 a.m. until sunset all year, and many visitors choose to hike the Dunn Point Trail and camp overnight on the shores of the cove.
Apart from camping, fishing is another recreational pastime common at Lily Bay State Park. Moosehead Lake is known for housing smallmouth bass, brook trout, lake trout, white perch, yellow perch, pumpkinseed sunfish, and the ever-enticing landlocked Atlantic salmon.
If you're not a fisherman or a camper, no worries. Dunn Point Trail will lead you to a cove with incredible views, where you can picnic and relax either on the water in a boat or on the shore.
Since it's open throughout every season, the trail is a great spot for not only hiking, but also for cross-country skiing.
The views of Moosehead Lake from the cove are a photographer's dream in all weather including fog, rain, and snow.
If you're there in the summer, there is no doubt you will enjoy yourself under the beautiful Maine sun. Plus, if you get too hot, you can always cool off in the water as this is a great swimming hole for the entire family.
