There is a little town northeast of Acadia National Park sitting near the sea that is small and unassuming and yet very charming. Many little towns just like this one sit all along the Maine coast leading up through the state. These little towns give our state life and history. They are beautiful and well worth visiting. Machias, Maine is one of those towns.

The first of which came from the name of the town itself. The name Machias comes from the Passamaquoddy natives which roughly translates to "Bad Little Falls". In honor of the people who named it before they kept the name of the waterfall and made a park for all to enjoy.
Right at the heart of this Maine small town and right off of Route 1 is Bad Little Falls Park. The park is nestled up to the river that feeds into the Machias Bay.

You can sit and watch the water bubble and churn over the harsh cutting rocks which creates a fascinating turbulent current that is attention-grabbing. There are a few simple walking paths to enjoy this spectacular show. Make sure to visit the pleasant downtown area and even see the Burnham Tavern Museum which will tell you the story of the first naval battle in the American Revolution. This is a fascinating story and one that is well worth the visit to go see.
This may be a small town on the North Eastern Coast of our state but Machias, Maine has some beautiful views.
