The beautiful town of Camden lies right on the coast of Maine, along the West Penobscot Bay.

Walking through the town on a sunny day means views of a quintessential Maine harbor, complete with the boats, the sounds and smells of the coast.

While we love the view from sea level, it's the ones up high in Camden Hills State Park that really give some perspective.

You can head to the park for some hiking to reach the best views, but driving up the Mt. Battie Auto Road is faster, easier and provides some wonderful views along the way.

Once you get to the top you'll find a parking area and see this structure, which makes the view even more impressive!

Make the easy climb to the top and you'll be presented with views of Camden, Penobscot Bay, and the surrounding islands.

Turning inland will reveal the flowing Camden hills that surround the area.

The view is impressive at any time of year, but summer means the greenest greens.

And autumn means an array of colors that feel so very Maine.

it's worth spending some time at the top to take in the view, which sometimes reaches as far as Cadillac Mountain at Acadia National Park on a clear day.

There are a number of islands in the bay, which are identifiable if using the helpful signage.

But, even if the day isn't perfectly clear over the bay it's fun to see the harbor from so high.

The entry fee into Camden Hills State Park is normally $8, but through Labor Day most state park fees in Maine have been waved!
