There are so many gorgeous spots in Maine that it’s always hard to say which is the most beautiful. The diverse wild landscape of mountains and coast make just about anyone fall in love with the state. With some of the most picturesque scenery in the country, the best way to explore is usually on a trail that leads to an overlook. This way, you can get the best vantage point of the surrounding landscape. One trail we think is quite special is the Borestone Mountain Base and Peregrine Trail that leads through the forest to an overlook with some epic views. Let’s have a look.

The Borestone Mountain Audubon Sanctuary protects approximately 1,600 acres within Maine's Hundred Mile Wilderness region. Here you will find a rare older forest, granite crags, three ponds, and incredible 360-degree views from two different peaks.

To hike here, there is a fee of $5 per non-member adult and $3 per non-member senior or student. If you are a member of the Maine Audubon or have a child under the age of six, it's free.
The Borestone Mountain Base and Peregrine Trail is an out-and-back 2.7-mile trail, much of it through forest, and is rated as a moderate hike. The trail is lightly trafficked so you may be in luck and have it all to yourself!

The trail is well-maintained but there is a little bit of scrambling and climbing over rocks you'll have to do in some sections along the way. The elevation gain is 902 feet so expect some steeper areas as well.
