Of all the places to be when you’re hungry, Maine might be one of the best. While some people might think we’re just a cold state tucked up in the northeast, those who live here or visit often know that the best food in the country is right here! But that doesn’t mean it’s all seafood around here! We actually have tons of options and we think some of the best are the unexpected ones. This unassuming little spot in Portland is a favorite around here!
Bogusha's Polish Restaurant & Deli in Portland offers something a bit different than the other dining options available in Maine's most notable food town.
This friendly little spot on Stevens Avenue is easy to miss if you don't know what you're looking for. But, once you do find it you'll be met with a smile and some of the most flavorful food in town! That's because this Polish food is authentic and cooked with care.
And you can't find any that are fresher! They're made from scratch every Wednesday and options include cheese and potato, sauerkraut & mushrooms, spinach and feta, potato, cabbage, chicken and pork. We love the idea of ordering them for the holidays.
In addition to the perfect pierogies Bogusha's also offers plenty of other hearty Eastern European dishes. Stuffed cabbage takes years of practice and these are spot-on!
But don't limit yourself just to meals. The small deli area offers up imported grocery items, too. These make great gifts. It's also fun to try new snacks just to feel like you've taken a trip overseas!
Whatever the reason you swing by, make sure you're hungry and ready for what will feel like a small vacation.
Bogusha’s Polish Restaurant & Deli is open Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. You can learn more about this great spot by following them on Facebook.
