The One Maine Trail That Everyone Needs To Hike Before They Die
The title of this article might be slightly misleading. We arguably could have titled it “The One Maine Trail That Everyone Needs To Hike If They Want To Die.” We’re joking! But, this trail is not for the faint of heart. It’s one of the best in Maine, but it takes some training and preparation. We typically give you hikes that are fairly easy, but we thought it might be time to give you a reason to get out there and test your limits. We love it and think you will, too.

From Route 3, you'll take the Hulls Cove Entrance at Acadia and start the Park Loop Road. You'll take the Park Loop road about 2 and a half miles, then take a left towards Sand Beach. You'll find the start of the trail on the right before arriving at Sand Beach.
The Beehive Trail actually begins on the Bowl Trail, but soon veers to the right.

Don't let this scare you! Unless it's clear that this hike is not for you. If that happens, turn around and head to another trail. There are plenty that are great for beginners.

This helps climbers to make their way over the steep, exposed cliff face. It also helps with all those narrow ledges and edges.

Keep going!

Unless it's a foggy day. In which case, you're heartier than we are. The views are what get us to the top!

Instead, you'll head back through a lovely forest towards the Loop Road on the Bowl Trail. This is about one mile. If you're interested in something a little longer (because the ascent of the Beehive wasn't enough?) take the scenic Gorham Mountain Trail or the Ocean Path back towards Sand Beach.

The Bowl Pond is one of the smallest in Acadia. You can take in a wonderful view of it from the top of Beehive hill.

Take some time to prepare and plan on getting it done this summer!
