My name is Chris Dodge and I live right here in the great state of Tennessee. My family and I are full adventurers filled with passion to see the amazing things our state has to offer. We are avid hikers and have explored many different places in Tennessee and beyond but we are always thankful to be living in such a glorious state.
There is a little truck stop in Hermon, Maine that might not seem like much if you just pass it by. But Dysart’s in Maine is a famous diner warranting attention. With breakfast always on the menu, pies that have been counted as some of the best in the state, and friendly service, word has traveled quickly about this diner. Make it a brief stop on your route or make it your destination, but either way, this is one diner you do not want to miss.
The name came from the original owners, Dave Dysart and his wife Irene.
Dave wanted to bring the flavors of Maine to his diner. The big idea was to bring the flavors that remind you of spending the weekend camping and comfort food that is heartwarming. So he found a man named Greg who was excellent at cooking camp food, what Dave didn’t know at the time became the key to success. Greg's wife Betty made incredible pies and started making them at the restaurant. This took off so much that people will travel from all over to get a taste of that famous Dysart pie recipe.
To work your way up to the massive dessert menu you can order breakfast at any hour. Warm pancakes slathered in smooth and sweet syrup, or some fresh eggs and crisp bacon. You can’t go wrong with breakfast items no matter what time it is.
You can also try their “baked in a buttery flaky crust” chicken pot pie. Or was that a “baked in a buttery flavored crust”? “Baked in a buttery crispy crust”? Well, either way, you know what we're talking about. The chicken pot pie is amazing.
Over the years guests have consumed thousands of cookies and if that tells you anything about Maine flavors it's that we like our sweets. So Dysart’s has a whole bakery as their dessert menu.
Of course, the pies are one of the most popular items on the menu. These incredible dessert items have put this little truck stop on the map and for good reason. One bite of those sweet and light pies will have you declaring them the best Maine has to offer too.
Classics like blueberry and apple are available but they also have melt-in-your-mouth cream pies. Graham cracker pie or chocolate cream pie are other great choices. No matter what you order, these treats do not disappoint and will be a satisfying end to your meal.
Dysart’s in Maine has earned their fame. For an unassuming little truck stop to a nationally known part of our state is a pretty great trajectory. If you want to find out what everyone is talking about, we encourage you to visit yourself and have a slice of pie. For more information, please visit Dysart’s website.
