Over the last few years, Maine has become known as a foodie destination. It’s joined the ranks of places like Austin, Boston and that other Portland in terms of places visited specifically for food. But, while we see tourists heading to towns like Portland and Rockland, we love knowing the secret of Maine’s smaller towns. That’s where some of the best food in New England can be found. Including this spot!
The town of Unity is beloved by the people who live there, but if you're not from the area you might drive right past it. But, you'd be missing out on one of the most lovely parts of the state.
The Amish community uses no technology, which means that chef Matthew Secich created something that some people might have thought impossible. How do you run a successful meat and cheese shop without the use of electricity?
Adding to the fun of the story is the fact that, prior to opening the charcuterie, Chef Secich worked at some of the highest rated restaurants in Chicago, DC and Jackson Hole. His family joined the Amish community in Unity in 2015.
Amish Charcuterie is open Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Unsurprisingly, their online footprint is small, but you can see reviews on Facebook here. Or you can reach them on 207-948-1777.
