If the soothing sounds of the waves and the country roads aren’t doing it for you anymore, check out these hidden spots that offer an oasis from our otherwise busy lives.
Many locals refer to this serene preserve as "Hobbitland," referring to its green and secret feel. However, there is so much more to these lush woods. The area is preserved by the non-profit Vaughan Woods & Historic Homestead and is perfect for exploring small streams and paths.
Hiking Ocean Path will give you views of what many believe to be "classic Maine" - from coast to forest. There are many stopping points which make it a relaxing hike for those who don't want to have to constantly scramble uphill over rock. The trail will take you past Thunder Hole and will end at Otter Point with views of Cadillac and Dorr Mountains.

This rocky, steep hike is a bit of a challenge, but comes with some awesome ocean views. Along the way you'll be able to see from the Quoddy Channel to the cliffs of Grand Manan Island in New Brunswick Canada.
This lake is known for an array of coves, inlets, and more than 20 islands. It also has Ladies Delight Light, the only active inland waters lighthouse in the state. The lighthouse marks the Northern part of the underwater reef running through the lake.
While the Debsconeag Lakes area is a beautiful place to visit no matter what you do there, the truly magical part is the ice caves. The cave walls hold ice even on the hottest days of the summer and descending into it will make you feel that you've begun your journey to middle earth. But remember that exploring the cave is best for advanced hikers and climbers you'll need the appropriate equipment since the area can be quite slippery and even dangerous.

McLaughlin Gardens was started by Bernard McLaughlin in 1936. He welcomed anyone who wanted to visit whenever his doors were open. The garden and homestead have now been open for about 70 years.
