10 Things Maine Doesn’t Have And We Like It That Way
Maine has it all! A coastline longer than California, wooded forests offering calm and tranquility and the best food in New England. It’s true. Bon Appetit says so! But, would you believe there are some things that Maine is lacking? It might seem impossible, but check out this list of things you won’t find in Maine!

When you drive through Maine you're treated to the wide open expanse of nature. You won't find any billboards here blocking the views or trying to sell you something.

Apparently there were once Timber Rattlesnakes living here, but they're not extinct. So, rest assured that when you find a snake in your wood pile after pulling up the tarp you're not in any danger. Unless you're afraid of all snakes. Then you're in danger of being terrified. Like, us.

We might have gatherings in parks and centers of town, but when was the last time you got stuck in a giant crowd? Or, how about standing in long line at the movies? Mainers are lucky that we tend to be geographically spread out and small in number.

We can love the Pats from afar, but we don't have to worry about all the traffic and parking issues that the folks in Foxboro deal with every season. And, it makes us appreciate our other teams. Check out a Seadogs ballgame in the summer or the newly returned Maine Mariners hockey team! And, don't forget our college teams.

Sure, you'll find an outlet in Kittery and another in Freeport, but ever try finding a regular GAP with current merchandise? You surely came up empty handed. You'll have to head to Mass if you want to shop at one of America's most ubiquitous stores.

While they do seem to be happening more frequently these days, does anyone remember the old days when snow just meant...snow. No days off, no big deal, just winter in Maine.

The highest recorded temperature in Maine was 105 degrees Fahrenheit in July of 1911 in North Bridgton. While the summers do feel warmer, we'll probably avoid downright tropical temps for a little while.

Maine famously has the northern terminus of US portion of I-95 as well as the northern end of US-1, but you won't find a high speed freeway here. Those are typically designed for lots of high speed traffic, which Vacationland, thankfully, does not have.

With so much to do outside, there's no reason to find yourself in a state of boredom. Hike a trail, swim, take a walk, smell the flowers...shovel snow. There's always something to do in Maine!
