From important moments in America’s history to happy people appreciating the land around them, here are just a few reasons why Maine is one of the most patriotic states in the country!

The holiday commemorates the anniversary of the Battles of Lexington and Concord, the first battles of the American Revolutionary War on April 19, 1775. Fun fact: The other states that recognize the civic holiday are Massachusetts and Wisconsin, where it is called "Patriots' Day."
Our voter turnout is truly impressive. During the 2012 election, 61% of voting aged Mainers showed up at the polls. That's a whopping 10% higher than the national average. That placed us second in the nation in terms of voter turnout. In 1991 and 1996, we were ranked #1.
