This hotel might be the coolest thing to pop up in Portland in a while. Located inside the old Press Herald Building, all the decor hearkens back to the days of typewriter journalism and news. UNION doesn't disappoint either! Dinner is a mix of delicate entrees and we love that you can see the chefs doing their things through the open plan kitchen. Breakfast is pretty great as well!

Pilgrim's Inn is located in a restored him from the 1790s. Guests rave about the customer service, which includes kindness in addition to tea and cookies. Book ahead if you'd like to have dinner in the popular "Whale's Rib" restaurant during the season.

This charming cottage was built in the 1880s and is now on the National Register of Historic Places. But that's not our favorite thing about it. The best part might be the fact that you can get both traditional Italian cuisine and delicious New England favorites!

Folks who have visited rave about the food, but the pickled appetizer gets special kudos. The only thing more notable seems to be the service, which is top-notch and includes interested and engaged owners who often stop to chat with customers. Gluten free? You'll have plenty of options here. A reservation is best and, if you've had too much to eat, just roll into bed at the inn!

6. Fisherman's Wharf Inn & Restaurant, Boothbay Harbor
The view at this spot are second to none. Well, second maybe only to the food. This is another one that's closed for the season, but put it on your summer list at the very top!
While we love the food here, it’s the unforgettable setting that really wows. The Blair Hill Inn, located in beautiful Greenville, was once a gentleman's estate and a breeding farm. It was built as a mansion in 1891 and has been restored to become a boutique hotel with truly unique decor. Today, the bed and breakfast features ten rooms, set on 21 beautiful acres.

9. Earth at Hidden Pond, Hidden Pond Resort, Kennebunkport
Located within luxury boutique hotel, Hidden Pond, Earth is a delightful place to spend a meal. Their slow food and farm-to-table feel will delight foodies. Everything is created with great care and, while some say they're on the small side, the portions will certainly satisfy. Unfortunately, you'll need to wait to May to give it a shot as they're closed for the winter now.
